Nona Hendryx and Mamafunk
Per WPFW’s Public Service Announcements and the Bethesda Blues and Jazz website:
“Hendryx tackles social issues, love and politics with a smoky vocal palette somewhere between funk and the end of the stratosphere. Hendryx’s legendary career spans six decades of sound, beginning as a founding member of Patti LaBelle & the Bluebelles morphing into the Rock Funk Glam Diva’s Labelle. Nona Hendryx remains the Queen of Transformation. still writing music across genres with politically and socially relevant lyrics wrapped in neo-funk grooves, avant soulful vocals, and art-rock charged rhythms.”
Morning Brew – Classic Jazz Edition
This coming Thursday, 19 December 2019, The Classic Jazz Edition will a be a highly eclectic show without any given theme. Not Christmas or holiday music per se, we will dedicate some time to what I will simply call seasonally appropriate tunes. Additionally, I will preview this holiday bash and fundraiser the next evening by playing a couple-few or more tunes by Ms. Hendryx from differed periods of her nearly 6-decade career.
Stay tuned!
