Happy Holidays
First, I will start out this morning’s post by wishing all my listeners, their families, and other loved ones a joyous, peaceful and happy holiday season. I thank you all for listening this past year, and I hope we can spend time together Thursday mornings this coming New Year. It is a pleasure and honor to be able to bring you Morning Brew on WPFW throughout the year. Happy Listening!
Year End Mini-Drive
This Thursday, 26 December 2019, starts WPFW’s 6-day, year-end mini fund drive. While all donations to the station are welcome, I want to thank all listeners who already donated this year and call upon those who have yet to give to step forward and put your money where your ears are. No amount is too small, but more importantly, no amount is too big. If you have the wherewithal, some extra Christmas money, or a nice year-end bonus, please consider a major contribution or becoming a sustaining member. And, of course, if you still itemize deductions, your donation is fully tax deductible.
If all has been setup as requested, we are also offering Morning Brew and Morning Brew – Classic Jazz Edition themed thank you gifts this drive. Please see the post under SWAG, https://morningbrew-classicjazz.com/?p=223, for more details. A Morning Brew baseball cap is perfect for dog walking on crisp winter mornings. To donate online go to http://www.wpfwfm.org and hit the big red donate now button on the left hand side.
Make sure you select Morning Brew – Classic Jazz Edition from the drop-down menu. We have a goal of almost $2,000 and your support will be greatly appreciated. None of the money goes to our volunteer programmers; it all directly supports our lean and mean operations, such as studio rent, electricity, internet, tower rent, and our small overworked and underpaid staff. Help us start the New Year with sufficient money in the bank.
Thanks in advance!
2019 New Releases
This week’s program, quite simply, will highlight new jazz releases of 2019. As a program back in July, earlier this year, featured new releases from the first half of 2019, tomorrow’s program will concentrate on new releases from the second half. However, I will throw in some of my personal favorites from earlier in the year. While most selections will be new tunes by artists currently on the scene – yes Jazz is alive and well, despite repeated warnings of its demise – some selections will be historic material released or released this year, including a 3-disk set of duets by pianists Kenny Barron and the late, great Mulgrew Miller, https://sunnysidezone.com/album/the-art-of-piano-duo-live.
New Year’s Day
Lastly, once again on on New Year’s Day, my colleague, programmer, festival producers and jazz musicologist extraordinaire, Willard Jenkins, https://www.openskyjazz.com/about/willard-jenkins/, has assembled a group of all-star programmers, plus me, to bring you a review of 2019 all day from 5:00 a.m. to midnight. I will hold down the 2:00-5:00 p.m. slot, a rare daylight opportunity to listen for those of you who don’t get up at 5:00 p.m. More on this day of programming will follow on the next post.
Stay tuned, don’t touch that dial. Once again, happy holidays and best wishes to you and yours.
