This Week
On this program, after a yet to be determined version of John Coltrane playing My Favorite Things, we will feature piano music for the balance of the program. While not strictly in chronological order, we will start with classic music by the masters – Thelonious Sphere Monk, Bud Powell, Bill Evans, Hank Jones and Harold Mabern to name a handful – and conclude with current artists on the scene today, including Victor Gould, Theo Hill, Spike Wilner, Isaiah J. Thompson, Orrin Evans and others. In between, a couple-few sets will feature pianists from Central & South America and the Caribbean, including Ganzalo Rubalcaba, Chucho Valdés , & Aruán Ortiz (Cuba); Danilo Pérez (Panama); Michel Camilo (Dominican Republic) and Antônio Carlos Jobim & Eliane Elias (Brazil).
Next Week
Just a heads-up, next week is Thanksgiving. We will feature vocals about food and instrumentals with food in their titles. Of course, we will include, Louis Jordan doing Ain’t Nobody Here but Us Chickens.
Stay tuned and enjoy!
